A. The 1870 Collection by Piral is very well known in Italy and other European countries and now available in the USA from Terra Allegra Imports LLC.
Q. How safe is it in comparison with metal cookware?
A. It is the true "green” cookware product being sought by the consumer today. Simply, it is earth, stylishly formed by artisans. In the manufacturing process no harmful by-products are created unlike many types of metal pans.

Q. How do I Care for Piral 1870 Collection cookware?
A. Immerse and fully cover all Piral terracotta items in water for 6-8 hours before first use only. Remove and allow to dry fully.  Use directly on the flame of stove-tops, in ovens, on grills or wood ovens, microwaves and in dishwashers. Clean up is easy due to the “crystalline” glass like finish.

Q. Why does Piral terracotta cookware need to be soaked?
A. The interior of the cooking surface and exterior is sprayed in the factory in Italy with a heated glass like finish which seals the cookware. However the reason it needs to be soaked (immersed fully in warm water) before the first use only is due to the bottom where the flame hits them being completely unfinished clay. The clay needs to be hydrated which it is during normal use i.e washing by hand or in the dishwasher it absorbs water. But for the first use it must be soaked.
